College Bound
With all the assorted Christmas humbug yesterday, I didn't make it to the mailbox until late last night. Like usual, Bill got some junk mail and The Kid got a pretty standard pile of college flyers, mailers, and other collegiate-related mail, all of which I put on her desk chair. I, of course, got the bills. ;) I finished my evening chores, started the dishwasher, and went to bed, all standard procedures. Imagine my surprise this morning to be awoken at the crack of dawn by a shriek. Not for presents, oh no, she had to wait for those until her dad got home from work. No, in the pile of college-related mail, among several perfectly normal looking articles from her #1 college of choice, she received an acceptance notice, congratulating her on her admission. We are all incredibly excited and happy for her. The college only admits a few hundred freshmen every fall and we all were very concerned that she might not make the cut. But she's been aiming for admission there for a long, long time, we've had several campus visits including an overnight stay and sitting in on classes, face to face meetings w/ admissions, financial aid, etc, she's had private interviews with assorted folks while her parents fidget in waiting rooms, I can't count how many phone calls, emails and forms we've sent in... She's been clear - as have her parents - that this school is her number one choice. Period. Hands down. Even after the severe grade slump of KidFest '07, she got in. We're very proud of her, and excited. Now we just have to figure out how to pay for it. lol Thank goodness they're offering a hefty financial aid package.
